Germany: Kassel

The historic capital of the former Landgraviate of Hesse and host of the quintienale of modern arts documenta can easily reached by train. Long distance trains stop at Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe, located between the city centre and the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe" with its impressive water features. Kassels main train station, the Hauptbahnhof, located near the inner city and the documenta sites, can usually only be reached by regional trains (also from Wilhelmshöhe). Watch out: The main train station does no longer have a large display of all departures (each local train has its dedicated fixed track), and you can have difficulties to find a railway staff member, so come with sufficient time to read the displays at the tracks if you aren't familiar with the departures to different destinations.
