Germany: Göttingen

The university town of Göttingen can easily be reached by ICE (and IC) long distance trains, and is a wonderful start (or end) point for many bike routes. One of them is the bike route "Dransfelder Rampe" connecting Göttingen and Hannoversch Münden – in the past by train, now by bicycle. Hann. Münden again is the start/end point of the Werratalradweg along the river Werra. When you exit the Göttingen Hauptbahnhof via the main entrance in direction city centre you'll find a sgn post pointing to "Radfernwege" at the left hand side of the forecourt, guiding you into the direction of the long distance bike routes.

Germany: Hamburg

The Hanseatic city of Hamburg with its important seaport and press and media industry can easily and comfortably be reached by train, both, from most bigger cities within Germany with Deutsche Bahn as well as from the Danish capital of Copenhagen. You can also travel over-night, with direct night train connections, both from the South (starting in Salzburg/Austria and Konstanz/Germany) and the North, from Sweden.

Germany: Kassel

The historic capital of the former Landgraviate of Hesse and host of the quintienale of modern arts documenta can easily reached by train. Long distance trains stop at Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe, located between the city centre and the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe" with its impressive water features. Kassels main train station, the Hauptbahnhof, located near the inner city and the documenta sites, can usually only be reached by regional trains (also from Wilhelmshöhe). Watch out: The main train station does no longer have a large display of all departures (each local train has its dedicated fixed track), and you can have difficulties to find a railway staff member, so come with sufficient time to read the displays at the tracks if you aren't familiar with the departures to different destinations.
